Dangerous, violent, chaotic, risks and history of conflict - that’s how people characterize Mindanao. Consequently, these became one of the reasons why people are discouraged and scared to explore Mindanao and got blinded because of these general judgments. As a matter of fact, not all places in Mindanao are risky and unsafe, not all Mindanaoaons are mean people, and it is not as chaotic place as you imagine. If truth be told, the place of Mindanao is the second-largest island group next to Luzon and has been dubbed as the “Land of Promises” for its majestic, breathtaking, and promising natural resources. Also, Mindanao is known as the country’s surfing capital, a famous highly urbanized city, with varied and rich culture, historical treasures, jaw-dropping tourist attractions, mouthwatering delicacies, and friendly Mindanaoans. However, just like other places you will be visiting, safety is one of the utmost priorities that travelers consider to avoid getting into trouble, protect themselves, and have an enjoyable and worry-free adventure.

To help you with your planning, we provide a list of safety travel tips as your guide to having a trouble-free journey here in Mindanao!

  • Know where NOT to go

Remember, safety first! Do individual research about the place you want to visit, get to know your destination first and make sure you ask locals for more details when you arrive at your desired destination.

  • Never leave your things unattended

Always be mindful of your belongings, especially in crowded places. If possible, leave your valuables in your hotel, never keep your money in one place, and use the right bag for your stuff.

  • Stay vigilant when talking to strangers

Be observant when talking to strangers, be aware of the situation, pay attention to what is going on around you, and follow your instinct if it doesn’t feel right to avoid being distracted, getting your stuff stolen, and involved in trouble.

  • Avoid walking alone in dark alleys or streets

If you happen to be alone, always avoid taking unlighted areas and uninhabited areas, and be observant of the surroundings.

Now that you’re armed with these basic safety travel tips, it’s time to get out and explore the beauty of Mindanao!
